The purpose of this website is to make available to the world an English translation of Schubert’s song cycle Winterreise (Winter Journey). The lyrics are based on the original poems by Wilhelm Müller, but aren't word-for-word translations. Rather, the aim has been to capture the spirit of each poem, and to fit the lyrics to Schubert's music, just as he fitted his music to Müller's poetry.
